ABOUT MICRONEEDLING

In the quest for youthful, radiant skin, there are countless treatments promising miraculous results. However, one procedure that has gained significant popularity in recent years is microneedling. But what exactly is microneedling, and how does it work? In this comprehensive guide, we'll delve into the science behind microneedling and explore its benefits, process, and effectiveness.

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that involves the use of tiny needles to create controlled micro-injuries on the skin's surface. These micro-injuries stimulate the body's natural healing response, triggering the production of collagen and elastin, which are essential for maintaining skin elasticity and firmness.

This treatment has also gained popularity because there is minimal to no downtime. You may leave Ganesha Healing with some minor redness, but for most people the redness clears by that evening or the next morning. The Celluma Pro LED Therapy device that I use at the end of treatment helps immensely with clearing redness as well.

The Benefits of Microneedling

One of the primary benefits of microneedling is its ability to improve the overall texture and appearance of the skin. By promoting collagen production, microneedling can effectively reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, trauma scars, stretch marks, sagging skin, large pores and hyperpigmentation. Additionally, microneedling can enhance the absorption of topical skincare products, allowing them to penetrate deeper into the skin for maximum effectiveness.

The Microneedling Process

During a microneedling session, a specialized device with tiny needles is gently rolled or stamped over the skin's surface. The depth and intensity of the treatment can be adjusted based on individual skin concerns and desired outcomes. While the procedure may cause mild discomfort, topical numbing creams are often applied to minimize any pain or discomfort. Most people won’t feel any discomfort at all, and some even find that it feels good, like an additional vibrating facial massage.

Pre-Treatment Care

Before a microneedling treatment, it is important that you take care of your skin and ensure it is in a calm state by:

  • Avoiding certain treatments. Don’t wax, use depilatory creams, or get electrolysis on the area for 5-7 days before.

  • Avoiding certain products. Do not use topical agents such as retinoids, exfoliants, or topical antibiotics for 5-7 days before.

  • Avoiding laser treatments, excessive sun exposure, and tanning beds for at least 14 days before.

  • Avoiding certain medications such as anti-inflammatory medications, aspirin, or blood thinners for 5-7 days before and the day of your treatment. If you have a cardiovascular history, you should check with your doctor before stopping blood thinners. Over the counter pain medications such as ibuprofen should also be avoided as they can interfere with proper healing.

  • Avoiding (excessive) alcohol consumption for 24 hours before your appointment. In addition, stay hydrated by consuming water and electrolytes.

Post-Treatment Care

Following a microneedling session, it's essential to follow proper post-treatment care to ensure optimal results and minimize the risk of complications. This includes:

  • Avoiding direct sunlight for the first few days, and wearing sunscreen with at least SPF 30 daily

  • Using gentle skincare products to soothe and hydrate the skin

  • Avoiding saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs and hot sweaty workouts the day of, and the day after treatment.

  • Halting the use of any exfoliants for at least a week. Avoid any skin makeup or harsh skincare products for at least 24 hours.

  • Staying hydrated. Drinking water helps your body produce healthy collagen cells which can help your skin repair faster.

Effectiveness and Results

Many individuals begin to notice improvements in their skin's texture and appearance within a few days and/or weeks of their first microneedling session. However, results are cumulative. Multiple treatments may be required to achieve the desired results, with most practitioners recommending a series of sessions spaced several weeks apart.

Microneedling offers a safe, effective, and non-invasive solution for achieving smoother, younger-looking skin. By harnessing the body's natural healing response, microneedling can rejuvenate the skin from within, leaving you with a radiant and youthful complexion.
