ABOUT ACUPUNCTURE
Acupuncture is a procedure that awakens, strengthens, and focuses the body’s capacity to heal itself. There are many natural forces at work in the body, namely blood and qi (pronounced “chee”), that are the ingredients needed for healing. It is important to remember that the body wants to heal itself, and it was designed to do so. Sometimes, however, it just needs a push in the right direction. Acupuncture can enhance, strengthen, and direct these natural internal forces that are the true healers of disease.
Acupuncture is not just an energy medicine, nor is it voodoo or magic. You do not need to believe in it in order for it to work (although visualizing a positive outcome does have its perks). Acupuncture is a real physical medicine, based on real human anatomy. It stimulates the nervous system and connective tissue in ways that no other intervention can. This is why many patients turn to it instead of using medications, or undergoing painful surgical procedures. In contrast, acupuncture is minimally invasive, extremely safe, and relatively free of negative side effects. (This ancient yet ever evolving medicine really can make miracles happen. )
Health can be thought of as a state of balance within the body. By strategically placing needles along meridian pathways in the body, I am able to direct your body back to a state of balance. When out of balance, blood and energy aren’t moving and flowing in the body as they should be. There is a saying in Chinese medicine that translates “If there is free flow, there is no pain. If there is pain, there is no free flow”. This is because all pain in Chinese Medicine is defined as obstruction to the flow of blood and/or qi. When there is a problem with free flow to a particular area of the body, that area cannot function or heal properly. Even if you are seeking help for a condition that does not involve any pain, free flow of blood and qi, and balance within the meridians, will allow the body to function optimally. It will improve the flow of oxygen, nutrients, and blood to nourish every cell in your body. This will relieve pain, improve organ function, and prevent aging. It comes with a myriad of positive side effects that occur as your body moves closer to a state of balance. Often times patients will come in seeking help with one specific ailment and after a series of treatments they will find that their mood is elevated, they are sleeping and digesting better, they have more energy and body awareness, and have found a window into the interconnectedness of everything that happens within the human body.
Acupuncture can treat an endless number of conditions without drugs or negative side effects because it targets the 5 main factors that influence your health: flow of oxygen in your body (qi), flow of blood in your body (xue), health of your blood vessels (xue mai), health of your organs (zang fu), and the health of your nervous system (jing mai). By targeting these 5 areas it stimulates the bodies natural ability to heal itself, especially in combination with massage, herbal medicine, nutrition, and self care. Almost all treatments at Ganesha Healing will include at least some massage therapy targeted at opening the meridians, increasing blood flow, loosening connective tissue, detoxing the lymphatic and organ systems, and stimulating specific acupuncture points and channels that target what we are treating. If there is interest, each treatment will also include counseling and recommendations for herbal medicine, nutrition, and self care so that we may optimize your healing experience.
